In 1980 communist Czechoslovakia, Mara dreams of leaving her village to study in the city and become a pilot

But her father, a Ruthenian farmer and widower, insists she stays and works the land. As their village faces destruction because of a new water reservoir, their generational conflict intensifies, revealing the struggle between tradition, identity, and the desire for freedom against a backdrop of historical change.
